He blotted out every living thing that was on the face of the ground, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens. They were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the ark. And the waters prevailed on the earth 150 days (Genesis 7:23-24).
The Lord repeated his instructions on loading the ark. The record identifies the specific day on which the rain began (based on Noah’s age). The narrative repeats Noah’s loading of the ark and a graphic description of the antihalation of all life on the earth except that which was on the ark.
Noah’s faith – he believed what the Lord said would happen even when nothing like this had happened before. He was obedient in following God’s detailed instructions on constructing the ark and followed God’s detailed directions on loading the animals on the ark. Note: at this point, the animals did not fear man and obeyed Noah (see Genesis 9:2).
When God is going to perform a miracle, he expects us to step out in faith. Moses had to stretch his hand out over the Red Sea before the Lord parted the waters. The priests had to step into the Jordan River before God stopped the river. The Israelites had to march around Jericho before God destroyed the city.
By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith (Hebrews 11:7).
