But God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the livestock that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind blow over the earth, and the waters subsided. Genesis 8:1
When God remembers people in scripture, he is about to act, to do a great work. In this case stopping the rain, eliminating the flood waters, releasing the occupants from the ark, and making a covenant with Noah.
This chapter provides a detailed account of God’s actions, the timing of events, the testing of conditions, God’s command to disembark, and his instruction to be fruitful and multiply.
The chapter closes with Noah offering a burnt offering that was pleasing to the Lord. The Lord then promised not to “curse the ground because of man’” nor “strike down every living creature,” and then establishes the routine for life.
Throughout this narrative and many other places in scripture, we see the Lord as a God of details. Do we recognize the God of details in our lives. Do we understand that all the details of our lives serve a purpose? Moreover, do we live our lives based on his promises as did Noah. He has told us that he has a plan for us and that he provides eternal protection for believers despite what is going on in our lives or around us (Jeremiah 29:11). Because of his promises we can go through life on faith, hope, and his grace.
I know of nothing which stimulates my faith in my Heavenly Father as to look back and reflect on His faithfulness to me in every crisis and every chilling circumstance of life. Over and over, He has proved His care and concern for my welfare. Again and again, I have been conscious of the Good Shepherd’s guidance through dark days and deep valleys.
