So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man, and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord (Genesis 6:7-8).
This chapter opens with a description of rampant sexual perversion and evil in the world. “Everyone did what was right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:20). Therefore, God said he would destroy the earth.
But Noah found favor with the Lord. Noah was set apart from the wickedness of his generation and the Lord chose to use him to reset creation.
In the second part of the chapter, the Lord gave Noah instructions on constructing the ark and what to load on the ark. He told Noah he would destroy the earth with a flood.
The Lord is always looking for faithful men and women through whom he can do great things. The Lord uses obedient and faithful people for tasks that advance his kingdom. There are many examples of God working through his people, Noah, Moses, David, Paul, and Martin Luther. Billy Graham . . .
What are great things? Leading someone to the Lord, encouraging someone in their faith, mentoring, and teaching (using spiritual gifts). Meeting spiritual or physical needs. We are called to change the world, our world.
What is the world the Lord has called you to change, your family, your fellowship, neighborhood, community . . .
Noah’s faith produced obedience. Even though he stood alone, and the scholars and leaders of the community mocked him, Noah made an ark exactly as God told him to make it.
