“By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith” (Hebrews 11:7).
Righteous: “knowing that you were ransomed . . . with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot” (1 Peter 1:18-19). While scripture never claims that Noah was spotless, he alone stood out in his day as a righteous man.
Obedient: Jesus said, “but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father” (John 14:31). Noah’s faithful obedience was the reason the Lord chose him to reset creation. Further, Noah followed the Lord’s commands in constructing the ark, gathering and loading the animals, and releasing his family and the animals from the ark.
Savior: Jesus said, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 9:10). By following God’s orders, Noah was the physical savior of the world.
Condemnation: Jesus said, “If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world (John 12:17).” The writer of Hebrews makes it clear; the life of obedience is blessed, while doing what is right on one’s eyes brings death. The Word does not say that judgement and condemnation have been eliminated. They are real for those who reject Christ’s offer of salvation.
Herald of Truth: “This man [Nicodemus]came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God . . .” Peter said called Noah a herald of righteousness (2 Peter 2:5). While we think of Jesus as a teacher, both teachers and preachers proclaim the truth. They proclaim to a _____________-
