1 Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, 2 who was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in all God’s house. 3 For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. 4 (For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.) 5 Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, 6 but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope. (Hebrews 3:1-6)
Jesus, Apostle and Priest (3:1): The writer builds on the truths described in chapter 2 by comparing Jesus’ faithfulness with that of Moses, a faithful servant. He calls Jesus an apostle (one sent) and a high priest (one who sacrifices for our sins).
Keeping the Focus (3:1): He urges believers (those saved, transformed, and set apart) to remain faithful by keeping their focus on Jesus.
Jesus is Superior to Moses (3:2-6): The author continues by elevating Jesus’s faithfulness over Moses’, the one sent by God to lead the children of Israel, the one who was faithful and obedient in building the tabernacle, and the one to whom God gave the law defining the need for a savior. Here God is portrayed as the builder of the house and all creation, and therefore, significantly more important than what he created. While Moses served God in obedience and as the leader of Israel, Christ served believers, members of God’s house, by providing salvation as the Son. Therefore, we are to be steadfast in our faith so that endurance becomes our testimony.
Challenge: Is Jesus on speed dial for emergencies or is he your constant companion? Is he the focus of your life?
There is only one secure foundation: a genuine, deep relationship with Jesus Christ, which will carry you through any and all turmoil. No matter what storms are raging all around, you'll stand firm if you stand on His love.
