The seven years of plenty that occurred in the land of Egypt came to an end, and the seven years of famine began to come, as Joseph had said. There was famine in all lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread. (Genesis 41:53-54)
Pharaoh’s Dreams: Two years after Joseph had interpreted the dreams of the cupbearer and chief baker, Pharoah had two dreams that no one could interpret.
The Cupbearer Remembered: The cupbearer reported that Joseph had interpreted his and the baker’s dreams, and that his interpretation was accurate. As a result, Pharaoh sent for Joseph. The narrative describes Joseph as being let out of the pit, meaning the conditions under which he had lived in prison.
Joseph’s Interpretation: Joseph told Pharoah that his dreams were from God and that God would provide the interpretation. Joseph proceeded to tell Pharaoh that his dreams meant there would be seven years of plenty and seven years of famine. That the dream was repeated meant it was eminent. Joseph then gave Pharaoh detailed instructions on establishing reserves during the seven years pf plenty so that the country was prepared for the seven years of famine.
Joseph’s Promotion: Pharoah acknowledged that the Lord had given Joseph great wisdom and skill and that he had a divine presence about him. He then gave Joseph authority over all of Egypt second only to Pharoah himself. In addition, Pharaoh gave Joseph an Egyptian name and wife which made him a part of the royal family. Joseph proceeded to set aside great reserves of grain during the years of abundance. The narrative reports that Joseph had two sons: Manasseh and Ephraim.
Famine: After seven years of plenty, a severe famine struck Egypt and “over all the earth.” Therefore, Pharaoh directed Joseph to open the storehouses so the Egyptians could eat and make food available to sell to other countries.
Have you experienced God working through you because he equipped you and put you at a time and place where you could minister?
“And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14)
